Scanning
How do I get a good scan?
Turn the lights on and open the curtains. Walk slowly round the edge of the room with your iPhone at chest height, pointing at the walls. Sweep up and down a little so it sees the floor and ceiling edges, and make sure it sees every door and window.
Moving furniture out of corners helps it find where walls meet. Mirrors and large windows can confuse the scanner, so give them a slower pass.
My rooms don’t line up with each other.
Rooms line up when you scan them one after another without closing the scanning screen. After naming a room, tap Save & scan next room and walk straight into it. If you stop and come back another day, start a new plan for the rest of the rooms, or rescan them together.
A wall or door is missing from my plan.
The scanner sometimes misses a wall it only saw at an angle, or a door that was closed. Rescan the room and spend a few more seconds pointing straight at that wall or doorway. Open doors are easier to find than closed ones.
Why doesn’t my plan have a north arrow?
North comes from your phone’s compass, so Roomprint needs location access. Allow it when asked, or turn it on in the iPhone Settings app under Roomprint. North is recorded when you finish your first room. Hold the phone upright and away from anything metal at that moment.
Furniture wasn’t picked up, or I don’t want it.
The scanner finds sofas, chairs, tables, beds, storage, TVs, baths, toilets, sinks and kitchen appliances. Anything it misses you can add from the Furniture tab. To start with empty rooms, turn off Detect Furniture in Settings before you scan.
Editing your plan
How do I paint a wall or change the floor?
Choose Paint or Texture at the bottom of the plan, pick a colour or finish, then tap the wall or floor. To paint a ceiling, use Apply to… → Ceiling of this room, or switch to 3D, tap Inside view and tap the ceiling.
How do I match a colour I already have?
In Paint, choose Scan and tap Open camera, then point it at the cushion, tile or paint chart, and tap to pick the colour. You can also type a hex code under Hex.
How do I move, turn or resize furniture?
Choose Furniture, tap a piece to select it, then drag it in the 3D view. Use + and − for width, depth and rotation: hold a button to go faster, or tap the number to type an exact value. Walls stop furniture going through them, but it can pass through doorways. A piece can be turned to any angle as long as it fits in the room.
How do I fix a wall the scan got wrong?
In the Plan panel tap Edit Walls, then tap the wall. Drag it to move it, or drag one of the white handles at its ends to move a corner. Corners snap square when they’re nearly square.
To set an exact length, tap the length and type it, or use + and −. The wall at the far end moves, so a square room stays square. Tap Delete wall to remove one the scan added by mistake.
How do I add an alcove, chimney breast or bay?
In Edit Walls, tap the wall where the alcove starts and tap Split here, then tap where it ends and split again. Drag the middle part in for an alcove or out for a bay, and Roomprint adds the short walls at each side.
How do I add or remove a door or window?
In Edit Walls, tap the wall at the spot where you want it, then tap Add door or Add window. To remove one, select its wall and tap the × next to it under In this wall. You can also tap a door and choose Remove Door.
How do I change a door?
Tap the door in 2D or 3D. You can change its colour, whether it’s open or closed, which room it opens into, and which side it’s hung on (as seen from the room it opens into). With the Paint tool chosen, tapping a door paints it straight away.
How do I measure something?
In the Plan panel tap Measure, then tap two points on the plan. The points snap to corners and walls when you tap near them. Tap again to start a new measurement.
With the ruler button on, every room shows its length and width. Select a piece of furniture and you’ll see how far it is from the wall on each side.
How do I show a grid?
Tap the grid button next to the ruler. The squares are 1 m, or 1 ft if you use feet and inches, and each room’s grid lines up with its own walls.
How do I add a note or photo?
In the Plan panel tap Add Note, then tap the plan where the note should go. Type a few words, and tap Take Photo or Choose Photo to add a picture. Notes show as numbered pins; tap one to open it again.
How do I undo a mistake?
Tap the curved arrow in the bottom corner of the plan. The arrow next to it puts the change back. On an iPad with a keyboard, ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z work too.
How do I add ceiling lights?
Choose Furniture, tap Add furniture and open Lighting. There are downlights and pendant lights, each in a modern and a classic style. Turn the lights on with the light bulb button to see them light up the room.
Can I add my own room types?
Yes. After scanning a room, tap + Custom under Room type and type a name, such as Study or Classroom. It’s saved for your next scans. Press and hold one of your own types to remove it.
How do I see more of the plan?
Tap Hide above the tools panel to give the plan more room. Tap Tools, or any tool at the bottom, to bring it back.
How do I hide the measurements?
Tap the ruler button next to the floor name to show or hide wall lengths and room sizes. Printed and exported drawings always include them.
How do I add another floor?
When naming a scanned room, choose its floor or tap New floor. In the plan, use the floor menu at the top to switch floors or add one. Press and hold a room in the Plan panel to move it to another floor.
Can I change to feet and inches?
Yes. Go to Settings → Units and choose Imperial.
Printing and exporting
How much paint and flooring do I need?
In the Plan panel tap Areas, Paint & Flooring and choose Paint & Flooring. It lists each paint colour in litres and tins, and each floor or wallpaper in packs, boxes or rolls. Set the number of coats, how far a litre goes (it’s on the tin) and the extra flooring for cuts. With the Roomprint unlock, tap the share button to send the list.
Can I get a list of room sizes and areas?
Yes. Tap Areas, Paint & Flooring and choose Room Areas for every room’s size and area in m² and sq ft, with a total for each floor. With the Roomprint unlock, tap the share button to save it as a spreadsheet (CSV).
How do I make an estate agent style floor plan?
Choose PDF, Print or a 2D image when you export, and turn on Room Sizes & Area Schedule. Each room is labelled with its size in metres and feet, and the sheet lists the rooms, the total floor area and a short disclaimer.
Can I include my notes in the PDF?
Yes. If your plan has notes, turn on Notes & Photos when you export. The drawing shows the numbered pins, and extra pages list each note with its photo.
Why is my printed plan not to scale?
Make sure your printer is set to 100% or Actual Size, not Fit to Page, and that the paper size matches the one chosen in Roomprint (A4, A3, Letter or Tabloid). The scale, such as 1:50 or 1/4″ = 1′-0″, is printed in the title block.
Which file should I send to my architect or builder?
Send the PDF for a quick look. For drawing work send the DXF, which opens in AutoCAD and most CAD apps, or the IFC file for BIM software such as Revit and Archicad.
Why can’t I export a USDZ model?
USDZ uses the 3D data from Apple’s scanner, so it’s only available for rooms you scanned yourself with LiDAR. The sample plan has no scan data. IFC works for every plan.
How do I remove the “Created with Roomprint” mark?
Go to Settings and turn off the “Created with Roomprint” Badge. It’s removed from prints, PDFs and shared pictures.
Buying and your plans
How much does Roomprint cost?
Scanning, planning and decorating are free. Printing, exporting and sharing is a one-off payment of £9.99, with no subscription.
I’ve bought Roomprint before. How do I get it back?
Go to Settings → Restore Purchase. Your purchase belongs to your Apple Account, so it comes back on any iPhone or iPad signed in to the same account, even after deleting the app.
How do I use my plans on another iPhone or iPad?

How do I delete a plan?
